If on a winters night

From the gallery about the show:
"The exhibition's title references Italo Calvino's 1979 novel If on a Winter's Night a Traveller. The work is a postmodern experiment in which Calvino centres the reader and the act of reading as fundamental to the narrative itself. To engage with the novel, one is transformed into the protagonist, and undertakes the adventure themself. By removing 'a traveller,' it is left open ended. The winter's night, a very literal reference given the exhibition's timing in the heart of London's winter, is staged as an adventure for a gallery goer to undertake. Our subjective experience of the exhibition becomes critical to the narrative being conveyed. As a group show, there is an added element of non-linear storytelling at play. Artists' chosen for this show display unique practices utilising a range of mediums. Painting, sculpture, video. woodwork, and even crochet art are all included. All the pieces, from the vibrant and animated sculptural work of Neal Camilleri, to the haunting portrait by Cliff Warner, engage the viewer in a complex and personal web of storytelling. Video works by Florence Bennett provide movement pitched against the calculated stillness embodied by the cropped scenes of Emma Smith. The mixed media aspect of the show speaks to a fundamental Galleria Objet's belief in expanding upon traditional commercial art object parameters. If on a Winter's Night is a gathering celebrating art and the many stories it conveys. The works selected are not intended to convey a cohesive message, but rather proposition the visitor to engage on a journey of their own through the show. We ask attendees to consider the power of art to transform a room on an unassuming winter night."
